Radioactive iodine-131was detected in the air of 25 provincial areas of China's mainland, with only six provinces and autonomous regions returning negative readings. However, the levels detected were very low, said China's National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee.Only Jiangxi, Hubei, Hainan and Yunnan provinces and Tibet Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region haven't reported any trace.
The committee said all the detected radioactive substances were less than 100,000th of natural background radiation and that no protective measures are necessary.
Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau said the city's radiation supervision agency again detected very low levels of iodine-131 yesterday.
