This cosmopolitan and commercial district is great for people on the go and executives with meetings to attend, with a few key tourist attractions thrown in for good measure. Famous for its high-end housing, commercial opportunities and exciting nightlife, Jing’An is a great location for executives to settle. From the moment you step off the metro, this district is a 360degree visual experience, from the golden Jing’an temple, to skyscrapers so tall you’ll crick your neck looking at them to shining rows of international perfumes and cosmetics. Jing’an has developed at an impressive rate over the last few years, with office spaces alone up over 300% from 2010.
The high-rise buildings make up a significant portion of Shanghai’s skyline and give Jing’an a very commercial feel. Aside from the office spaces and residential skyscrapers, Jing’an is home to the Shanghai Exhibition Centre and the Shanghai Centre as well as an abundance of shopping venues at street level.
Jing’An is certainly geared for Shanghai expats offering international supermarkets, Mandarin schools and translation services. City Supermarket is stocked with sought after items from abroad like French cheese and Plaza 66 and other malls are full of Dior and Gucci and the likes.
When you need a break from a day at the office or exploring, the Sauna Room at the Equatorial Hotel and the Jing’An park make a convenient spot. A stroll or a jog through the park followed by a soak in the spa or sauna is the perfect de-stress and detox.
Jing’an temple
One of Shanghai’s most famous traditional Chinese Buddhist temples dating back thousands of years. Jing’an temple is a visual experience architecturally, home to a host of impressive paintings and calligraphy, as well as simply a lovely place to escape the bustling crowds of downtown Shanghai. Just across the road you’ll find the Jing’an park with lovely out door cafés, lots of luscious greens shading the paths and locals taking a break.
City Plaza - Shopping
Right at the subway station you’ll find this upmarket department store filled with all of your favourite brands of cosmetics, food and clothes. Below ground level is an international gourmet Supermarket serving an impressive incredibly high quality produce at your convenience. The focus is Japanese, but you can also find French macaroons and New Zealand kiwi fruit, this could easily be your one stop shop to delicious international produce. Up one level and your cosmetic issues will all be resolved with any beauty product your skin needs. Continue upwards for some retail therapy and a bite to eat from the brand new restaurants.
10-Corso-Como
This high-end, high concept design and fashion complex launched recently in Jing’an after its success in Seoul and Tokyo. More boutique-like than the designer brands found in malls but equally luxurious and upmarket in a creative and modern life-style experience environment. Browse the selection of brands from the finest and most high-fashion mens and womenswear as well as international books, magazines and perfumes and then have an expert tailor your new purchases in-house before a luxurious brunch at the café or cocktail and antipasto platter in the lounge bar. With an apartment in Jing'An this could all be at your doorstep! You could spend hours here just admiring all of the beautiful things to buy, or the art exhibitions on the fifth floor.
Entertainment
The international film festival is held in Jing’An located close by to many international restaurants for an evening experience that feels like home. For art lovers, Jing’An has lots of options, small Chinese galleries as well as the Museum of Arts and Crafts and the Spin Ceramic shop are visual feasts. In the evening there are plenty of bars and eateries, though they are more scattered than the concentration in Xintiandi. For dinner and a show check out the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at Jing’An Hotel on a Sunday for some chamber music.
Eat and Drink
Anything and everything! Whether you need a fancy corporate dinner in a skyscraper, an American burger, ingredients for a homemade meal, a local restaurant or anything in between you will find it in Jing’An, some of Shanghai’s best restaurants are located here. Drinking out is the same, happy hour for gentlemen at Mojo, old fashioneds at Blue Frog, sports bars and clubs on Tongren road or more affordable and fun spots like I love Shanghai Lounge. Jing’An even has fun spots for a amusing evening without alcohol if that’s what you’re after.
